JUDGES,POLICE OFFICERS,PPL. WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS…PLEASE READ AND ANSWER?

Hello.I am 18 and about a month ago I stole 300 dollars from my employer and got caught.I was not arrested but I was given a “citation in lieu of arrest”.That had a scheduled court date on it.That court date is Monday. This is my first offense ever besides a speeding ticket and I would really like to know are there any chances of me:
a)Going to Jail
b)Getting This Case Dismissed
c)Getting Some Kind Of Deal W/out Jail Time
Also,if they filed charges against me wouldn’t there be a warrant out for my arrest? And how do I get a court appointed attorney?Im In DALLAS,TX.PLEASE SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY.

a) Your chances of going to jail over $300 are very slight unless there are aggravating factors like a past criminal history.

b) Your chances of getting this case dismissed are also very slight. You may have a better chance of getting the prosecutor to drop the charges than of getting the judge to dismiss the case. Discuss this with your lawyer.

c) Your chances of getting a deal that includes a fine, probation, and/or community service are very likely.

There will only be a warrant issued for your arrest if you fail to appear at the scheduled time and place for your court appearance. They may hold a hearing to determine whether you or your parents can afford an attorney for your defense. If it is determined you can not afford an attorney, the court will appoint one to your case.

An attorney for the defense will generally have you plead not guilty at your initial hearing, and look to get a deal from the prosecutor. My advice is as long as they are not talking about jail time, you accept the deal.

If you are actually guilty of the crime, and it is easy to prove you did it, then it is usually best to show remorse and admit your guilt. The judge is more likely to treat you with leniency if you don’t drag it out through a trial.

I hope this helps.
