What are the consequences of passing the speed limit?

Last month, my boyfriend had gotten pulled over by the police because of driving past the speed limit. Last week, he got his fee and he is unemployed also, so he can’t pay it nor can’t his mother and me since I’m unemployed too. We live in California and I was wondering would they bring him to jail if he can’t pay the fee? And if so, about how many weeks or months would he be released and how much would it cost if I tried to bail him out?
