Do endorsements received in Europe on an International Driving Permit get transferred to my UK licence?
I am a full UK driving licence holder and I currently have 9 points on my licence, for this reason I have stopped driving in the UK for fear of being caught out by a cunningly placed speed camera and losing my thus being banned from driving. However, it has become necessary through work to take a trip to mainland France using a company car.
Can anyone tell me (and provide some supporting evidence for their answers) if:
a) Can I drive legally in mainland Europe with just an International Driving Permit whilst not having my UK licence on my person?
b) If so, do endorsements received whilst driving on an IDP get automatically transferred to my UK licence?
a) in UK you must have and be able to produce a valid UK licence to drive. This can be at your choice of police station within 5 days. As said elsewhere the IDP is simply a translation of your UK document, you need to be able to produce both if asked. Generally the IDP is only needed if you don’t have a photo licence.
b) Foreign convictions aren’t put on your uk licence, YET!; but watch for legislation changes under the Brussels rules
