ct speeding ticket laws
Will a speeding ticket effect my chances of getting into law enforcement?

I was recently issued my first offense ever – a speeding ticket in CT. the ticket says if I pay the fine I won’t get points against my license. Does insurance still go up if there are no points (I’m 20 years old)? Also, I’ve always wanted to work in law enforcement when I’m out of college, and eventually the FBI. Will 1 speeding ticket on my record look really bad? I know it’s not a felony or anything, but it still concerns me. I’ve also heard I should appeal the ticket no matter what because the worst that could happen is they don’t reduce the fine.

Here is the bottom line.

A single ticket… or even a few will not in any way effect your chance to get into the job. Hell, currently employed cops get tickets off duty. Its a civil infraction and as long as you are not racking up a bunch and look like you are a menace no police agency will care about a speeding ticket.

As far as insurance… it is totally up to them. They do not care about points… they care about violations. If it was a moving violation, which speeding is, they will probably raise your rates for a couple years. Especially for young people.

Do not fight it if you are guilty.. just take you lump and move on. If you go to court and get found guilty (which you will) you will get the whole fine, points and also court costs.
