demerit points speeding ontario
Does a traffic ticket under 15km/hr go on record?

I live in ontario and got a speeding ticket for going 101km/hr on a 90km/hr limit on a highway. This was my first ticket and the cop told me this won’t affect my insurance premium. I really don’t want to contest it, as it is just a 50 dollar fine with no demerit points. I’ve been reading elsewhere that it actually may affect my insurance premium. Please help!
There were actually two cops in the car, he is just the only one that spoke to me, the other one stayed in the car. I am not looking to contest it, he only marked it as 11km/hr over limit when infact i was going little over 20 km/hr past the limit. I’m just wan’t to know if anyone or someone they know has been in a similar sitiation and what happened with their insurance premium.

Cops aren’t insurance professionals, so I don’t know why they are giving out insurance advice. The cop has no idea what your current situation with your driving record is like, so I would completely disregard whatever they said. Any moving violation goes on your record. The only person who can tell you whether this will affect you and how it will affect you is the broker/agent who you purchased the insurance from. No one here, and no cop that’s for sure, can give you a truthful answer. Call your broker/agent and ask them.
