Car insurance – to disclose speeding conviction?

Hi all, Well, I've been driving for 4 years without conviction and recently was captured for 38 mph in a 30 zone and was convicted for speeding (given three penalty points). I accept blame for this and do not expect any sympathy as speeding is bad! However, it is my first offense and my car insurance renewal is approaching in 3 months. Please do not take offense to this question, but I have to consider this crime, speeding and the insurance company will consult with the DVLA? I have a friend who has been disqualified from driving was still able to get insurance car despite being disqualified, which is odd, because I would have thought that insurance companies have access to their driving records. Is this right?

Yes – you must tell the insurance company of the sentence. For existing customers and the fact that there are now so many convictions, is unlikely to affect your premium is -. No insurance company can not check with DVLA but you can request a copy of your driving license if a complaint (Many companies do spot checks anyway) If you are a friend of a vehicle owner who wants others to be able to drive then no problem – it just get a policy excluding him from driving (hard to get online, but easy enough through a broker). He may have problems when you want to drive when he gets his license back as the insurer can not take it. (I guess that is not prohibited while driving the car!)
