Manchester Speeding Fines
2006

Virgin broadband , anyone having problems with their speed ? I should be on 20 but only gettin half a meg !!?
I am with virgin media ( formerly ntl ) . I have rang em a few times over the last fortnight to raise this issue and they have done all the tests and even sent an engineer out who tested everything and said it was ok !! T o be honest it was working fine whilst he was here , then ever since it is terrible again . I have only upgraded to the faster 20 meg speed a couple of week ago as we used to be on 2 meg but I can never remember having a problem … It seems to be since we upped the speed ? I was wonderin if it could be the exchange or the line to the house from the exchange ? or maybe with the new 20 meg speed which has only just become available have they overstretched the system ? Is there anyone else having simalar problems ? Especially in the greater manchester area , or is it just me ?? thanks .
Hi Buddy
I am not sure if I can help you but i would like to know if you are connecting your modem (provided by virgin) directly to your computer or it is attached to a router, the reason i am asking this is that my connection used to be on 10, now i have 20, when i plug my modem to my unit it runs on 20 , but when it goes through my router it drops to 10, my router is 54k wireless and should be capable of handling that sort of speed, i tried to forward the port i use for my downloads to one particular unit ( i have 3 computers at home) to make the most of it , also reset my router to factory setting and also reset my Motorola modem , but no joy ……
My problem is, I download stuff from news server, before the upgrade all my download were complete and healthy but ever since the upgrade, they are all damaged, my download speed is all over the place , it used to be steady 10 or 12 meg, but now it is anywhere from 18 to 26 , i think that might be my problem with my downloads…
Back to your issue, try to connect your modem to your unit , (if it is not already connected directly) and do a power cycle on your modem (unplug from main , plug it back , wait for a while and then switch your computer on) , see if that helps.
but if you ask me, since upgrade, something funny is going on at their end, i think it will take a while till they get this fixed i suppose (thats if they ever be able to) , same thing was going on when they introduced their 10 meg service and it took ages before i noticed stability ….
Good Luck
Ash
