Michigan Speeding Ticket Costs

I got a Speeding and Seat-belt Ticket, what do I do?

I was pulled over for speeding 58 in a 45 zone, and for not wearing my seat-belt. I’m 19, and I live in Detroit, Michigan. Until now, my record didn’t have a scratch on it. Sparkly clean.
What do I do? Can I fight/appeal it? How much will it cost? Is there a way to get it off my record, so my record is ‘clean’ again?
Help please!
It’s not what I have or haven’t done, it’s what you can prove. So yes, my record was sparkly clean.
And so what if I did it? I don’t have the money, so I want to try to get it reduced. I didn’t ask for your opinion on whether I deserve to pay it.

Speeding and no seatbelt? Whoa! You’re crazy!

Hire a traffic ticket specialist. Yes, you will have to pay the specialist upfront, and it looks very expensive at a glance, but in my opinion you absolutely need to find a way to make it happen,

The fact of the matter is that at this point, you are going to have to pay; one way or another. A traffic ticket specialist knows how court proceedings go, and knows how to say and what to say in court in order to reduce or maybe even have the tickets thrown out entirely. Sometimes the specialists even have special arrangements worked out with courts to have tickets reduced without having to even attend court at all. Consider it a benefit to having worked together for many years.

Given that it is your first offense, a specialist will undoubtedly be able to reduce the fines and reduce the points. This, in turn, will reduce the premium increase of your insurance rates.

If you go to court and be polite and just sort of stand there, you will be given the full fine and be asked why you are wasting the court’s time. If you go to court and admit to speeding but “not that much” you will be found guilty and given the full fine. If you go to court and try to fight it but find you have insufficient evidence you will be found guilty. If you go to court and misstep in the proceedings you will be found guilty. In my humble opinion, DO NOT go to court yourself. Especially at your age you are asking for trouble.

You will have to pay higher than the cost of the tickets to hire a specialist, but for a small chance to have the tickets completely removed I would pay it. Even if the specialist only gets the fines reduced (you have to pay the specialist AND the reduced fine), you will still save MORE money on insurance in the long run than the cost of the tickets and specialist. This will be extremely important, especially at your age.

You should also note that if you are found guilty, and this happens a second time, your insurance company may choose not to insure you (losing your ability to drive at all). But if the fines are reduced, should this event happen a second time you will not lose your insurance.

So I hope I am driving this point home. Find a way to hire a traffic ticket specialist! There’s like 3 in my town of 100,000, I’m sure that in a metropolis like Detroit there’s got to be lots of companies who offer this service.

For the future, buckle up and slow down.
