michigan speeding ticket laws
Is it required for North Carolina cops to ask for proof of insurance and registration?

I was pulled over going 81 in a 65. It was really a 55 but the officer got the speed limit wrong on my ticket. I was on my way back home to South Carolina from Michigan. It was about a 16 hour drive because we got lost in West Virginia and it was about 1 in the morning and I was tired and at this point you arn’t really noticing how fast you are going because you arn’t looking or worried about your speedometer and you can’t really feel how fast u are going. The officer never asked for my proof of insurance or my registration. I was told that it is federal law that they ask. A friend of mine got pulled over goin120 in a 55 and he told the judge the cop didn’t ask for registration or proof of insurance and the cop got fired on the spot and the ticket got put aside. He got pulled over around the same place I did. I’m not trying to get the cop fired or anything. I am just trying to see if there is a way I can protect myself. My court date is in 4 days and I don’t have a lawyer.

My husband is a police officer and he’s NEVER heard of such a thing. They ask for the proof to make sure you’re current on everything, not to cover themselves. No federal law about that. Police either enforce their city, county, or state laws. That doesn’t fall under any of those. If my husband has something that falls under federal laws, he calls the FBI.
