How to talk to cop about speeding ticket?

I got a speeding ticket but the cop told me to talk to him at the court date to reduce it to a non moving violation. Do i go up to him when i arrive or wait until after im called up by the judge? How does this work?
Should i mention that he said he would reduce it if other people can hear me, or is that something to do in private? Im kind of lost.

Call the courts and see if the info he gave you is correct. Keep in mind if you ask the courts permission to take a traffic school class you can avoid your insurance from going up also.
