The best practices for database server and web server?

Hi guys, I am setting up a sales information system, and I using MS SQL Server 2000 for my database and PHP .. My question is, what is the best practice for server configuration. Is it much faster to host the web server and database server on the same machine or to have them hosted on a different computer. The system is working well, codes and optimize. Right now I'm having trouble with the speed of the quiries especially for long time intervals. thanks ..

There is no rule about whether host the database and web server in the same or different machines. In the performance issues always find the bottleneck. Where appropriate consultations are the bottleneck. If you move your database to another computer, you also need time to process, therefore, you should maintain the database and Web application on the same machine and trying to optimize queries. Query optimization is a world in itself. Most generally you should be careful in the locks is published with his query data. Familiarize yourself with the optimization of SQL Server queries so you know what is causing it to be slow. Hope this helps.
