What happens to your record when you move to another state?
So I am planning on moving to california from virginia and was wondering how does your dmv/background record follow you. For example, my friend got a ticket here in virginia but it doesnt show up on his maryland dmv record. So if I was to move to California, my record wouldnt show up there? I have a 3 year old speeding ticker and a 3 year old hit and run traffic misdemeanor (the got settled for cash and then told the cops I never stopped :/ ) If I was to have the background performed in CA and never told my employer about my residence in Virginia then that wouldnt be checked right??? Someone told me this and it sort of makes sense, when I was processing for the Marine Corps, they have asked of all the counties I lived in so they can do background there, I dont think there is a national database especially for minor crimes, am I wrong?
A good background investigator will still find it.
The first three digits of your Social Security number identify where you resided when you applied. If it is different than where you currently live, they will run a record check there.
Also, your application will ask for a list of your residences, and a list of your prior jobs. Any out of state information could be followed up on.
