How many points does a ticket for negligent driving carry in New Jersey?

I unfortunately, I have my first driving ticket the other day. I was doing 37 in a 25 mph zone. The officer gave me a ticket, but said that instead of giving me a speeding ticket, which would give me a driving license sloppy which is less than a dollar. He said I should go to court (not compulsory) and pleads not guilty to get the points removed from my license. Does anyone know how many points takes the ticket and what the court costs be? Any other information would also be useful.
