Ny Speeding Ticket Plea

Fighting a traffic ticket?

ok, so I know I was bad, speeding is bad and dangerous, etc. so please no lectures about that.

I live in MA, and have a valid MA drivers license (I’m 19). I was pulled over in NY doing 92 in a 55 (according to the officer). He followed me at first before pulling me over, and said he clocked me in the mid-80′s then. He wrote me a ticket, and said I should plead not guilty and he would “help me out”. I was very polite and such through the whole thing.

I sent in my not guilty plea today and also requested a supporting deposition (which I’m pretty sure not all states have).

Basically, I want to either get the ticket dismissed or do something like attending a driving school in exchange for getting it wiped from my record. Any advice from anyone? I’ve been doing some research online, but am a little confused because of the whole out of state thing.

Diversionary programs such as traffic school or community service will be at the judge’s discretion. I’m not too sure how much discretion he will have at 37 mph over the limit.

You should contact the court clerk, they should be familiar with any programs the court offers. These programs are usually offered to people who plea no contest, and accept responsibility. It is less likely you will be given a break if you go to trial.
