ontario speeding fines
Ontario, Canada: I’m 17 and I got a speeding ticket but…?

I got a speeding ticket last week for going 82 km/h in a 60 zone. I was absolutely hysterical when he pulled me over because it was my first time getting a ticket and I had no documents of ownership of the vehicle or any insurance papers.

However, the cop was super nice and reduced my speeding ticket to 15 over so I don’t get points off, and he didn’t write me a ticket for failure to show any documentation. Probably because he felt bad cause I was just hysterically bawling my eyes out.

The thing is, though, I’m not even sure I’m insured on the car, my mom never told me, and it’s one big mess. If it were true that I am not insured to drive the car, what would happen with insurance after the ticket is paid? Will they find out and spike up my parent’s insurance? Will the ticket pop up when I finally do get insurance? Or does the insurance company just never find out? Is it possible for my parents to get fined/go to court for not getting me insurance?

What will happen?

A ticket for speeding, that’s it. If he had given you a ticket for no insurance, the fine could range for first timers from $1,000 – $2,500. I know, I was caught with no insurance once in Ontario, never again. Your parents will have to report the ticket to their insurance company. It won’t show up on your record, but it will on your parents though. No ticket for no insurance means that no one will know, consider yourself very lucky. You still have to deal with your parents for speeding anyway
