Outrageous Speeding Tickets

outrageous speeding tickets
Do you agree with outrageous traffic “fees” applied unevenly?

Virginia has passed a law (actually it’s a gimmick to raise money for roads) imposing a “civil penalty” for driving infractions such as failure to use a turn signal, speeding, unsafe tires, etc. The penalties are exorbitant and extortionary. They apply only to Virginia drivers. An out-of-state driver can do these things with near impunity. They might get a ticket, but they won’t get the excessive penalty tacked on.

I have had one ticket in 25 years, so I’m not beefing on my own behalf. I use cruise control and I don’t think I’m likely to get pulled over, but I’ve got a needy granddaughter who can’t afford new tires. She surely can’t afford the penalty, either.

It is definitely outrageous. I’m in Ashburn, VA right now. I’m at my friend house in Sterling all the time, and the police set up this speeding trap right near his house. It is a 25mph zone and they bust people going like 30-35mph all the time. We sat outside for 2 hours yesterday to just watch how many people they snagged. In only two hours one cop pulled over 11 cars all on the same street. It is ridiculous though. They try and make it sound better by saying something like…If you get a $3000 ticket we will give you a whole 3 years to pay it off. LOL Whatever!
