How can i keep a speeding ticket from being on my record?

I’m 25 and just got my first speeding ticket. 44 in a 25 in Virginia. I don’t mind paying the fine as much as I mind my insurance going up so I’d like to find a way to get this taken care of. My court date is not til Dec 23. Can I do an online traffic school course or something to get out of it? Or is there something I can say in court that will help? I know if I show up for the court date I’ll probably get my fine reduced. It happened at around 11:30 at night and I was going downhill. The cop was pretty nice and I’m sure he left it at 44 so I wouldn’t get a reckless driving. I was just driving on auto-pilot on my way home from work so I don’t really know how fast I was going. I shoulda known it was quota time though after I saw 8 people pulled over on I-81 when there are usually no cops at all.
