Fighting a traffic ticket in Seattle – what documents do I ask for?

I recently got a traffic ticket for failing to come to a ‘complete’ stop before turning right on a red light. I told the officer that I did indeed completely stopped but he wouldn’t even hear me out..just handed in a ticket folded in my insurance folder. he didn’t make me sign the ticket or even read it out to me!

I am contesting this ticket in King County WA and needed some help on the documents I should ask the Officer to get – log book, etc. that will make it difficult for them. This is not a speeding infraction where they have a laser reading, so it’s my word against the officers’.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You were not required to sign the ticket?!?! I’ve never heard of that one for a moving violation.

It is your word against the officer’s, but the unsigned ticket may be the technicality that can get it thrown out.

You’re going to end up spending more time trying to fight this than it’s worth (and will probably lose anyway). Contact one of the law offices that give free consults and see if it’s worth it before investing too much time into it.

Oh, and Seattle has a lot of the camera intersections. If they’ve got you on tape and it was a rolling stop – you’re wasting your time. (a stop is – complete lack of momentum for a certain length of time – look it up.) They will also get you for “inching” forward to get a better view.

DDR Seattle – Let’s go for a ride – warning: language
