I had a criminal driving conviction – can I still teach English Overseas?
Unfortunately, due to speeding and accumulation of demerit points I lost m licence for 6 months in NZ. That was 5 years ago, now I am changing careers and I finished a CELTA course last 2006, and I also have a Bachelor of Business. I am also studying a Masters in English Language teaching. I plan to teach in South Korea, China or Taiwan.
However I do have a criminal driving conviction, does anyone have had the same situation before? and if so did you still manage to find a job?

Of course. In all the jobs I’ve ever taken I’ve never been asked for a criminal record check. And since the crime was nothing to do with kiddie fiddling or suchlike, even if they did a check they wouldn’t come up with anything that could be considered threatening to your class.
So go for it and don’t worry about it!
