Speeding

I have a drivers license in the UK with three points (for speeding) I will be able to rent a car and drive in the U.S.

I'm going to California in a couple of weeks and the trip to the west coast would be complete without driving Hwy1!? The problem is that there have been three points for speeding (in April 2005) and I am concerned from a rental company not touch me! It is also worth noting that I am only 22. I also worry that I have only licensed paper and have lost the photo card. Thanks in advance for your answers (Fingers crossed!)

His two major problems are lack of photo license and age. If you can get a new photo license before going to California, do it. The age problem, but not totally prevent you from renting a car, will make it infinitely more expensive. Unless you say something about the points, I doubt you would be able to find out. Check all rental companies and the driver rates under 25 surcharge. You search the sites of companies that are international in scope. You can often find packages (car, insurance, etc.) in national currency and the equivalent in local currency (USD). You at least have an idea of the cost. I recommend making a reservation before arrival. Also, consider joining a loyalty program of the company (Thrifty Car Rental Blue Chip has, the company has emerald club) for some small benefits such as fast collection of your vehicle or preferred customer lines (less than expected, usually gets the car you reserve, etc.) They are free to join in most cases. The most important thing is to get the license thing photos if possible. If not, contact the rental companies before leaving the UK to find out their policies and get it sorted before you arrive so avoid disappointment and a great waste of time.
