Texas Speeding Violation Fines
2002

My first speeding ticket, what do I do?
I received my first violation of any kind today and it was going 42 in a construction zone of 20. The normal speed limit is 40, and there were no workers present. There’s no fine written on the citation nor court date. I honestly have no clue what I’m supposed to do…I’d rather not have my parents find out either…
This is in Texas, and I’m 17.
I do know that workers must be present in order for the double fines to take affect, I am unsure whether or not the speed limit is still the 20 or 40 if workers are not present. If, and I hope so, workers must be present for the 20 mph limit to take affect then can I still be fined for going 2 over? lol
The only problem is, I’m having some troubles looking up the laws.
On the citation there would most likely be a phone number for what district court will have the case and you can call them or look at their website. I don’t know specifically about Texas, but normally there is a letter that follows the citation that will list the court date, the fine, and your options for paying, challenging, or opting for traffic school (can’t speak directly to your area but I know a lot don’t let under 18′s attend).
The fact that there were no workers present is not going to get you out of it, and you may find the fee doubled or even tripled due to it being in a construction zone.
Also if you are on your parents insurance and you are not able to remove the points from your record, they are going to find out when the rates go up, might be best to tell them now rather than latter. If your license is a provisional one then they may have to appear with you so tell them now.
