Wisconsin Speeding Ticket Payment
2008
got caught shoplifting what happens?
i got caught shoplifting at a department store i got a fine of $300 and a not mandatory court date. if i go the the court date it could possibly get it lowered or get and extension on my payment. i have no crimminal record besides a speeding ticket two years ago. i am 20 years old and this is my first offense. since retail theft in Wisconsin is not a criminal offense and the court date is not mandatory my question is do they mail a notification to your house like reminding you of your court date or such. when i got my speeding ticket i dont recall getting anything and it was the same kind of situation with just a fine and non mandatory court date. and how does it work if the store has a civil suit or stuff..
Retail theft is a criminal offense in every state. In your case it just happens to not be a felony and the state doesn’t require a court appearance in order to plead guilty. And if the ticket already has a court date on it no they aren’t going to send you a reminder. And even if it doesn’t it is your responsibility to find out when the court date is.
Sure you can go and try to get the judge to lower the fine but there is no reason to think that he will.
Civil is civil and out of the courts hands. If the store send you a bill I would suggest you pay it.
